The Neustädter Feldmark is a part of the Herford district of Herford-Stadt , which corresponds to the city of Herford as it existed until further districts were incorporated on January 1st, 1969.

location

The Neustädter Feldmark extends from the Neustadt , which is part of the inner city, to the former city limits in the north and east of the city. In the southwest the Werre forms the border.

Accordingly, in the south of the city of Herford, adjacent to the old town , lies the Old Town Feldmark and in the west outside the Radewig the Radewiger Feldmark .

Werre gardens

Are located between the Werre, the Werre street and Hansastraße Werre gardens . This is a tree-covered lawn through which some paths run. One of these paths leads over a pedestrian and bicycle bridge built in 1971 over the Werre to the Lübbertorwall. From 1975 to 2004, the Herford Music School was located in one of the residential buildings along the Werre, the "Rühlschen Villa" . In the southern area there is the “Werregärten children's playground”.

Originally, the Werre gardens extended westward almost to Herderstrasse. In 1972, however, the Friedrichs-Gymnasium with several outdoor sports facilities was opened in this area, so that there is only a footpath along the Werre. The area of the indoor swimming pool, which stood in the northern area on Hansastraße from 1966 to 1997, was replaced by a medical center or partially renatured. In this part of the Werre gardens, the “Aloha Beach Club” has been open since 2012 in summer with sand areas, deck chairs, artificial palm trees, a beach volleyball field and restaurants.

The Werre gardens are also very popular for high school graduation celebrations and since 2015 for the Holi Festival .

City forest

The Herford City Forest is located on the south-eastern city limits of Bad Salzuflen . It extends between the Waldfrieden area with the sports park and the zoo in the northwest and the city of Bad Salzuflen in the east. To the north, the city forest merges into the Stuckenberg , to the east into the Salzufler city forest with the Obernberg.

From northwest to southeast the city forest is cut through by the city wood road, which is named after the city wood, another name for the city forest.

The Herford correctional facility for young people was built in the imperial era and completely renovated and rebuilt in the 2000s. This makes it the most modern of the four North Rhine-Westphalian juvenile detention centers. It is designed for 356 prisoners. The prison has a good reputation due to the fact that around 75% of the inmates receive training or occupational therapy while in prison.

The employment agency is responsible for the Herford and Minden-Lübbecke districts. Not far from here are the Herford District Police and the Herford Church District .

The Herford municipal utilities have their headquarters on Werrestrasse .

In the Maiwiese daycare center there is a group in which gifted children are looked after. The Bornbrede day care center is located in the northern part of the city .

Main station of the fire brigade

The main station of the Herford fire brigade is located on Werrestrasse. The Herford fire brigade is a volunteer fire brigade with full-time employees. It is responsible for fire and disaster control in the 79 km² city of Herford with around 65,000 inhabitants. In addition, the fire brigade performs the tasks of the rescue service and ambulance transport. The Herford fire brigade is divided into the product groups hazard prevention, hazard defense, ambulance / emergency rescue and technology. Head of the fire department is Chief Fire Officer Michael Stiegelmeier.

The fire fighting groups in the districts of Diebrock , Elverdissen , Herringhausen and Schwarzenmoor were incorporated into the Herford fire brigade after the incorporation on January 1, 1969. Until then, there were independent volunteer fire brigades in the respective communities. In 2013 the Herringhausen fire fighting group was dissolved. Since then there has been the Herford Nord fire fighting train with the Schwarzenmoor fire fighting group and the Herford Mitte fire fighting train, as well as the Herford Süd fire fighting train with the Diebrock and Elverdissen fire fighting groups.

Herford's oldest allotment garden, “Herford-Neustadt”, is located at the foot of the Stuckenberg, next to the Erika cemetery . The facility was founded in 1942 and comprises 27 allotments. The “Flachsröthe-Teich”, a cultural heritage from the 19th century, is located on the site. There are now seven allotment gardens in Herford.

Culture

The Herford City Theater is a guest theater with 692 seats.

In the city park Schützenhof there is a café-restaurant as well as several rooms and halls for private and public celebrations and events. Among other things, the concerts of the Northwest German Philharmonic take place there, which have their rehearsal rooms in a side wing of the city park Schützenhof.

Ernst Barlach secondary school

Herford's youngest secondary school, the Ernst-Barlach-Schule, is located on Graf-Kanitz-Strasse. It was opened in 1970 after the two other secondary schools, Otto Hahn School and Geschwister Scholl School, could no longer accept all students. Around 600 students attended the school in the 2010/2011 school year. A special feature is the bilingual branch, in which the students in the 5th and 6th grades are given special support in English and from the 7th grade the subjects geography and history are taught in English.

The Gothic St. Mary's Church , consecrated in 1325 and dating back to the Herford vision , stands on the Stiftberg (see separate article).

Christ Church

The Christ Church on Glatzer Strasse, built in 1958, was the first new Protestant church in Herford after the Second World War. It became necessary because after the war the population of the city increased rapidly, especially due to resettlers, expellees and refugees from the former German eastern areas . By 1972 a youth and community center, two rectories and a kindergarten were built. In the vicinity there are facilities and residential areas of the British Army of the Rhine as well as German apartments and industrial plants. Not far away is the Herford main cemetery "Eternal Peace".

Until 1965 the Christ Church belonged to the Marien parish of Stift Berg . After that she formed the Christ parish together with the Trinity Church in Falkendiek . Today it is part of the Emmaus parish together with the Trinitatiskirche, the Markuskirche and the Thomaskirche in Schwarzenmoor .

The church was built as an architectural unit together with the community center. At the time, the building was judged by experts as a prime example of a successful parish and church center and is still receiving attention today. The building is built like a fortified church on a hill. From the outside, the exposed concrete of the retaining walls can be seen next to the bricks of the building. The free-standing, 35-meter-high tower is also made of bricks.

The interior is also shaped by the bricks. The room receives daylight from the south through a large window front made of simple "Danzig glass". It reaches nine times divided from the support of the slightly arched barrel ceiling almost to the floor. The altar in the raised chancel is a mighty table made of Teutoburg Forest sandstone. The 750 kg baptismal font is to the right of the altar. Like the entire building, the pulpit is made of bricks.

The Christ Church in Herford offers good conditions for concerts because of its favorable acoustics. Both organ music and especially wind music are cultivated here at a high level. The wind instruments of the Christ Church in Herford are now known nationwide.

St. Mark's Church

The Protestant St. Mark's Church on Landsberger Strasse was consecrated in 1962. It belonged to the Marien parish of Berg Abbey until 1965 . Then she formed the Markus parish together with the Thomaskirche in Schwarzenmoor . Today it is part of the Emmaus parish together with the Trinity Church, the Christ Church and the Trinity Church in Falkendiek .

The tower is free-standing, the interior is simple. To the left of the raised altar is the baptismal font, to the right is the pulpit.

Kreuzkirche

The Evangelical Kreuzkirche on Hessestrasse in the Friedenstal was built in 1965. It forms its own parish. In the tower, the church built from red clinker bricks , there are four bells from the Schilling bell foundry in Heidelberg. They are tonally coordinated with the ringing of the Marienkirche.

Maria peace

The Catholic Church Maria Frieden was built in 1955 on Lübberlindenweg. It forms a pastoral network with the three other Catholic churches in Herford, St. Johannes Baptist on Komturstraße, St. Paulus on Kiebitzstraße and St. Josef in Elverdissen .

In the east, Autobahn 2 runs almost exactly on the border of the Neustädter Feldmark. From 1963 to 2013, the two motorway fueling stations and rest stops in Herford North and South were located in the Waldfrieden area . They have been demolished and are being converted into truck parking spaces.

In the northwest, Bundesstraße 61 crossed the district until 2019 . The most important arterial roads are Mindener Straße, Vlothoer Straße and Salzufler Straße.

From 1902 to 1963/64, the Herford small train ran over Hansa, Werre and Salzufler Strasse .

In the south, the Herford – Himmighausen railway runs on a short section through the Neustädter Feldmark.
