history
The school was founded in 1914 as a middle school. The first headmaster was Heinrich Decius from 1914 to 1921. During this time the school was recognized as a fully developed institution. Gustav Schmalhorst was the headmaster from 1922 to 1924, during his tenure the school moved to its current location on Uhlandstrasse. In 1933 (under the Hitler dictatorship ) only 1.5 percent of all school students were allowed to be Jewish. In 1944 the school was destroyed by a bomb attack. In 1945 permission was given to reopen.
Due to the increased population in the city of Herford and the surrounding communities, two more secondary schools were founded after the Second World War: the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule on Wiesestrasse in 1956 and the Ernst-Barlach-Schule on Graf-Kanitz-Strasse in 1970 .
In 1969/1970 the secondary school in Uhlandstraße was given the current name Otto Hahn School. Municipal secondary school for boys and girls - Herford. From 2009 onwards, several construction and modernization works were carried out. Among other things, a new auditorium / cafeteria and a new gymnasium were built. In August 2013 the Otto Hahn School became an inclusion school .
