The Luttenberg is 102.8  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the East Westphalian city of Herford . It is located on the Stiftberg , part of the Neustädter Feldmark . Roads run around the mountain, in the north the busy Stiftbergstrasse, in the south Luttenbergstrasse, a residential street. To the east is the Marienkirche and to the west is the city park Schützenhof with the Northwest German Philharmonic . The Luttenberg is now used as a public green area together with the Schützenhofpark to the southwest.

According to various historians, a place of worship or a Germanic sanctuary is said to have been located on the hill-shaped top of the mountain as early as pre-Christian times . After the Christianization, a Michaelis chapel is said to have been built at the same place , which probably existed until the 13th century. The Herford vision documented for the 11th century , the oldest known Marian apparition north of the Alps, is said to have occurred on the Luttenberg. Due to this phenomenon, the Marienkirche was built in the immediate vicinity southeast of the mountain. The Luttenberg is also considered the location of a historical court. This court, which was in use until the 18th century, is said to have been bordered by four linden trees. Two of these linden trees, estimated to be around 300 years old, are still standing today.

The Luttenberg is now fully protected as a ground monument.
