Northwest German Philharmonic

The Northwest German Philharmonic is one of three North Rhine-Westphalian state symphony orchestras . It is based in the East Westphalian city ​​of Herford .

history

It was founded in 1946 in Bad Pyrmont by former musicians from the Linz Bruckner Orchestra St. Florian and the Prague German Philharmonic. In 1950 it merged with the Herford Symphonic Orchestra, which was formed at the same time. The new ensemble was initially called the Städtebund-Symphoniker , before the current name was adopted in 1951.

Sponsorship and funding

The orchestra is the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, a supporting association of municipalities and local authorities in the region of East Westphalia-Lippe and the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe funded (Northwest German Philharmonic eV). Members of the sponsoring association were the cities of Bad Salzuflen , Bünde , Detmold , Herford, Lemgo , Minden and Paderborn as well as the districts of Herford and Lippe . In addition, four other congregations and one district are supporting members. Three other districts from Ostwestfalen-Lippe are grant providers.

Since 1992 the Northwest German Philharmonic has been supported by the "Philharmonic Society Ostwestfalen-Lippe".

Orchestral Concert Northwest German Philharmonic

The main field of activity of the 78-piece orchestra is the East Westphalian region, nationally and internationally with around 120 concerts a year. The focus is on the ten subscription concerts per year, which are performed in the Stadtpark Schützenhof Herford, the Konzerthaus Detmold, the Concert Hall Bad Salzuflen, the PaderHalle Paderborn, the Stadttheater Minden and the Stadthalle Gütersloh .

Tours took place in Japan , the Netherlands , Italy , France , Spain and the USA , among others . To date there have been over 200 records and 40 CD recordings with the ensemble. In addition to its concert activities, the orchestra is active in youth work with a school and concert pedagogical program.

On the internet classic portal bachtrack , the Northwest German Philharmonic came first in 2019 as the world's busiest orchestra, based on more than 130 concerts at home and abroad. The orchestra has been one of the top places on the portal since 2014.

Studio

The rehearsal room and seat of the orchestra are located in the Schützenhof city park on the Stiftberg , where the Herford concerts are also given.
