Eugene Tzigane (born December 17, 1981 in Tokyo ) is an American conductor . From 2010 to 2014 he was chief conductor of the Northwest German Philharmonic in the East Westphalian city ​​of Herford in Germany.

Life

Tzigane was born in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and an American father, studied with James DePriest at the Juilliard School and graduated in 2007 with a Master of Music in orchestral conducting. He later studied with Jorma Panula at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.

Tzigane's first guest conducting with the Northwest German Philharmonic took place in October 2009. In December of the same year he was unanimously appointed chief conductor by the orchestra. His contract was limited to four years. Tzigane was principal guest conductor of the Philharmonic Pomerian Orchestra (Filharmonia Pomorska) in Bydgoszcz , Poland until 2011 .

Awards

His awards include the Grand Prix at the “International Fitelberg” competition in 2007 in Katowice , Poland and second place in the two “ Sir Georg Solti ” competitions in Frankfurt am Main and the international Lovro von Matačić competition in Zagreb, Croatia.
