Walter Mentzel (born January 22, 1899 in Torgelow , † March 27, 1978 in Eckernförde ) was a German politician (NSDAP, German party, CDU). From 1958 to 1969 he was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament.

Life

After graduating from a secondary school , Mentzel studied at the University of Greifswald , the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel and the Hessian Ludwigs-University . Since 1920 he was a member of the Corps Saxonia Kiel and the Corps Hassia Gießen . In 1923 he passed the first state examination in law. After the subsequent legal clerkship , he also passed the second state examination in 1928 and then worked as a lawyer in Kiel . In 1930 he joined the National Socialist German Workers' Party . During the Nazi era , he was mayor of Kiel from 1933 to 1945 . In 1941 he was taken by Gauleiter Hinrich Lohse to the administration of the Reichskommissariat Ostland as area commissioner for Reval-Stadt . In the course of Mentzel's denazification process , his pension rights were recognized. Mentzel joined the German Party (DP) in 1946 , of which he was a member of the state board in Schleswig-Holstein until 1952. In the same year he switched to the CDU. From 1954 to 1971 Mentzel was a member of the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein , he always moved into the state parliament as a directly elected member of the Eckernförde constituency . From 1954 to 1958 he was deputy chairman of the parliamentary group of the CDU Schleswig-Holstein and deputy chairman of the committee for the constitution and rules of procedure. From October 10, 1958 to December 31, 1969 Mentzel was then chairman of the CDU parliamentary group and from 1963 to 1971 also chairman of the finance committee. From 1956 to 1965 he was district administrator of the Eckernförde district , after having already acted as district administrator of the Eckernförde district at the beginning of 1945. Mentzel was married and last lived in Eckernförde.
