Herford Music School
The music school Herford is the music school of the city of Herford , which was founded in 1970 and was teaching at the year 2018/19 about 1,724 music students. It is part of Kultur Herford gGmbH, which belongs to Herford Versorgungs- und Verkehrs-Beteiligungs-GmbH (HVV) through Herford Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH .

In addition to instrumental and vocal lessons , the offer includes music for children, which is music lessons in the 1st year of (in the 2009/2010 school year) eight elementary schools with ten classes. There are other offers for music school gnomes for children aged 18 months and over and for music school gnomes for children aged three and over. This is followed by early musical education and elementary music education for children from the age of four, as well as basic musical training for primary school children. For participants who do not yet know which instrument they want to learn, there is an orientation phase. Workshops , ensemble and other supplementary subjects as well as musical support for the disabled round off the program.
history
The music school started teaching in April 1970 with 550 students. At that time the school did not have its own rooms. It was not until 1975 that the "Rühlsche Villa" at Lübbertorwall 7 in the Werre gardens near the Friedrichs-Gymnasium was taken over. In 1979 and 1980 the neighboring communities of Enger , Spenge and Hiddenhausen joined the Herford Music School. In 1987 Enger and Spenge founded their own music school and left the Herford music school again.
In the same year, the classrooms were no longer sufficient due to the increased number of students. Therefore, it was expanded to include classrooms from the neighboring Wilhelm-Oberhaus-Schule on Wilhelmsplatz . The better spatial situation made it possible to found renaissance , plucking , string , wind and various chamber music ensembles . There were also jazz combos , rock bands and a big band . Together with the neighboring music schools in Bünde, Enger-Spenge and Löhne, a district music school orchestra was founded, which has been directed by Siegfried Westphal since 1999.
After up to 23 locations had been used in the meantime, the building, built especially for the school, but rented at Goebenstrasse 1, not far from Herford train station and the Marta Herford museum , was inaugurated on September 18, 2004 . Due to the new spatial situation, larger events could be held in the own building from then on, for which other rooms had to be used beforehand. The lecture room, in which concerts , conferences , training courses and celebrations are held, can hold up to 150 people. The hall, which also houses a grand piano , can also be rented by external parties.
The financing of the new music school including the equipment was only possible through the Association of Friends and Funding of the Music School as well as numerous sponsors and donors, in particular from industry, trade and commerce, but also Herford citizens. The city of Herford could not have mastered this on its own.
In 2010 the music school performed a musical to oppose the planned closure by the city of Herford.
College
At the beginning of 2020 the music school had 40 employees, 27 of whom were permanent.
