history
First documentary mention
On March 10, 1151, Bishop Bernhard I of Paderborn confirmed to the "St. Marienstift auf dem Berge bei Herford " that the Herford abbess Godesti had transferred goods from various places, including "Thinighe", to the monastery. This document of the bishop is available as a certified copy from the State Archives Münster from the end of the 14th century and is the first known mention of Tengern.
Previous political affiliation
From the High Middle Ages until 1648, Tengern belonged to the Minden bishopric , which then fell to Brandenburg-Prussia as the secular principality of Minden . Ecclesiastically the place belonged to the parish Schnathorst , administratively since the 16th century to the Vogtei Schnathorst in the office of Reineberg .
conflagration
In the early afternoon of April 26, 1726, a 16-year-old boy sets off a major fire. 42 of the 46 existing houses in Tengern are destroyed, including 17 residential buildings and the school and prayer house, which was built in 1720 and finally rebuilt in 1728/29.
Later political affiliation
In 1807 Tengern fell to the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia , and in 1811 to the French Empire . In 1813 it came back to Prussia, which allocated the place to the Bünde district in 1816 and to the Lübbecke district in 1832 . In 1844 Tengern was assigned as a political municipality to the newly founded Amt Reineberg (later Amt Hüllhorst). In 1909 the community of Huchzen was re-established by outsourcing from Tengern (193 hectares).
