Bernhard I von Oesede († July 6, 1160 ) was Bishop of Paderborn from 1127 to 1160 .

Life

The later Bishop of Paderborn Bernhard I came from the lineage of the noblemen of Oesede (cf. Oesede Monastery ).

The diocese of Paderborn was then rich in monasteries, and came under Bernhard quite a few added. The founding of the Benedictine monasteries in Gehrden , Marienmünster , Aroldessen (Arolsen) and most recently Willebadessen go back to his initiative . In 1128, at his suggestion, Count Widekind I von Schwalenberg and his wife Lutrud founded the Marienmünster Abbey as an expiatory monastery.

For the founding of the monastery in Gehrden around 1142, the nobleman Heinrich von Gehrden made his entire estate in Gehrden and in the neighboring Siddessen available, and the Benedictine monastery of St. Maria von der Iburg near Bad Driburg was relocated to Gehrden.

The monastery was founded in Willebadessen at the request of the nearby episcopal ministerial Ludolf von Osdagessen (provable 1126–1158; today: Osdagessen between Germete and Wethen ). By transferring real estate from his property, Ludolf provided the economic basis for the start-up, in which his six daughters entered as nuns. Further donations by Ludolf and other local ministerial families followed until 1158.

Bernhard I also founded the Cistercian monastery in Hardehausen in 1140 and was buried in the local church.
