Milan Nový (born September 23, 1951 in Kladno , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak ice hockey player who became a two-time world champion and was awarded the title of Czechoslovak Player of the Year three times .

Career

Milan Nový began his career as a hockey player in 1968 with HC Kladno , for whom he had already played in his youth from 1963 to 1968. After four years with the professionals in the first division of Czechoslovakia , he left his hometown Kladno to play for two years during his military service for the army club ASD Dukla Jihlava , with which he won his first championship title in 1974 . After the season he returned to Kladno, where he played continuously until 1982 and was champion five times (1975, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980). In 1982 Nový was given permission to move to North America. During the 1982/83 season, the attacker was under contract for the first and only time in his career in the National Hockey League and scored 48 points, including 18 goals, in 73 games for the Washington Capitals and was used in two playoff games, in which he remained pointless and goalless.

In the summer of 1983 Nový returned to Europe and signed a contract with Zürcher SC from Switzerland, for which he was active until 1985. Then he was on the ice for one season for the Vienna EV from Austria. From 1986 to 1989 Nový finally played again for HC Kladno , with whom he was promoted to the first division in 1987 before ending his career in 1989.

International

With the Czechoslovak national ice hockey team , Milan Nový won two world championship titles (1975, 1976), four times the silver medal at world championships (1975, 1978, 1979, 1982) and once the bronze medal (1981). At the 1976 Winter Olympics , he and his team won the silver medal. He also achieved a silver and a bronze medal at the Canada Cup ( 1976 and 1981 ).
