Career
Brent Severyn began his career as a hockey player in Canada's top junior division, Western Hockey League , where he played for the Seattle Breakers , Brandon Wheat Kings , Saskatoon Blades and Seattle Thunderbirds from 1983 to 1986 . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1984 in the fifth round as the 99th player of the Winnipeg Jets , for which he however never played. Instead, the defender played from 1986 to 1988 for the team of the University of Alberta before it to 1991 for the 1988 farm team of the Quebec Nordiques , the Halifax Citadels of the American Hockey League , ran aground, and he in the 1989/90 season debut in the National Hockey League for the Nordiques. The left shooter then spent two more years in the AHL with the Utica Devils , before he was given to the Florida Panthers on October 3, 1993 in exchange for Milan Tichý .
Shortly before the end of the trade deadline in the 1994/95 season, the Florida Panthers Severyn transferred to their league rival New York Islanders , for whom he was on the ice in the NHL for the following year and a half. He then spent a season each with the Colorado Avalanche , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Dallas Stars , where he won the Stanley Cup with Dallas in the 1998/99 season . Although he had not played enough games to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, he benefited from an exemption as he was out with injury for much of the season. Following this successful season, the Canadian left the Texans and moved to the newly founded Munich Barons in the DEL , with whom he became German champions in the 1999/2000 season . After another season in the DEL with the Krefeld Penguins , he ended his career in Germany in 2001.
