Steve Bancroft (born October 6, 1970 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he played for the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League and the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Bancroft played three years from 1987 to 1990 in the Ontario Hockey League with the Belleville Bulls . He finally moved to the professional camp for the 1990/91 season after he had been selected in the first round in the first round of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft .
The defender played in the American Hockey League for the farm teams of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks , for which he played his first and only NHL game in the 1992/93 season . This was followed under various circumstances in the franchises of the Winnipeg Jets , Florida Panthers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Carolina Hurricanes and San Jose Sharks . With the Sharks he came in the 2001/02 season to another five NHL missions, but otherwise he played as in all other stations also exclusively in the minor leagues . After his time with the Sharks, he moved to the St. Louis Blues and Ottawa Senators , where he had to be content with a regular place on the farm team for both.
For the 2004/05 season , Bancroft signed a contract in Europe and played for the Augsburg Panthers in the DEL for one year . For the 2005/06 season he returned to North America and ran in his last professional season for the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights .
In his career, the first round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs came to only six NHL games in which he prepared a goal. In the 2000/01 season, when he scored 73 points in 80 AHL games, he was appointed to the league's First All-Star team in the jersey of the Kentucky Thoroughblades , a farm team of the San Jose Sharks.
