Brian Norman Skrudland (born July 31, 1963 in Peace River , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player , coach and functionary who played 1045 games for the Canadiens de Montréal , Calgary Flames , Florida Panthers , New York Rangers and Dallas Stars competed in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . During his 15 seasons in the NHL, Skrudland, who was the first team captain in the Florida Panthers franchise history , won the Stanley Cup twice - in 1986 with the Canadiens de Montréal and in 1999 with the Dallas Stars. He then worked as a trainer and official for his ex-teams from Calgary and Florida in the NHL.
Career
Brian Skrudland began his career as a hockey player with the Saskatoon Blades , for which he was active from 1980 to 1983 in the Canadian junior league Western Hockey League . Then the attacker played for a season each for the Nova Scotia Voyageurs and Sherbrooke Canadiens in the American Hockey League , where he won the Calder Cup with Sherbrooke in the 1984/85 season . As the best player in the playoffs, he also received the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy . He then received a contract with the Montréal Canadiens , for which he ran up as a regular player in the National Hockey League in the following eight years . The 1992/93 season , in which Montréal won the Stanley Cup , he ended with their league rivals Calgary Flames .
On June 24, 1993 Skrudland was selected in the NHL Expansion Draft by the newly formed Florida Panthers , in which he was under contract as team captain for the following four seasons . After he started the 1997/98 season with the New York Rangers , he moved to the Dallas Stars , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 1999. With the Texans, the left shooter ended his active career after the 1999/2000 season at the age of 36.
From 2000 to 2003 the Canadian worked as an assistant coach for his ex-club Calgary Flames in the NHL. From 2010 on, Skrudland was responsible for player development in the Florida Panthers' coaching team before he took over the position of assistant coach in November 2013 when Kevin Dineen was fired . Following the 2013/14 season, two new assistant coaches, Mike Kelly and Mark Morris, were hired, so that Skrudland took over responsibility for player development again. He resigned from this position in summer 2016.
