Allan Raymond "Al" Jensen (born November 27, 1958 in Hamilton , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who played from 1980 and 1987 for the Detroit Red Wings , Washington Capitals and Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League .
Career
During his junior years Jensen played at the Hamilton Fincups in the OHL . The team was very strong with players like Dale McCourt , Al Secord and Willie Huber and won the Memorial Cup . In the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft , the Detroit Red Wings selected him in the second round as 31st. He had already been traded as the best goalkeeper in the draft and was also selected as the first goalkeeper.
His first station in the professional area were the Kalamazoo Wings in the IHL and the Adirondack Red Wings in the AHL , where he was able to convince. In the 1980/81 season he came to a job at Red Wings, but he had to accept seven goals. The following season Detroit gave him to the Washington Capitals . After a few games for the Hershey Bears in the AHL, he made the jump to the NHL and became the second goalkeeper behind Dave Parro . In the following year he replaced him and usually shared the place in the Tor der Capitals with Pat Riggin . Together they won in the season 1983/84 , the William M. Jennings Trophy . The following years were changeable and a knee injury in January 1985 forced him to take a twenty game break.
When the Capitals bet on Bob Mason in the 1986/87 season , he was given to the Los Angeles Kings for Garry Galley . There he could not prevail and only played five games for the Kings. In 1988 he ended his career.
Jensen currently works as a scout for the NHL's Central Scouting Service , where he serves as the lead scout for goalkeepers.
