Garry Michael Galley (born April 16, 1963 in Greenfield Park , Québec ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 1238 games for the Los Angeles Kings , Washington Capitals , Boston Bruins , Philadelphia Flyers , Buffalo Sabers and New York Islanders has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . Galley, who participated twice in the NHL All-Star Game , celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team by winning the silver medal at the 1996 World Cup .

Career

Galley had a hugely successful junior career at Bowling Green State University , with whose ice hockey team he played in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . In the three years there, the university won the CCHA championship three times. The defender also received numerous awards. In 1984 he won the National Collegiate Athletic Association championship with the team .

After Galley had already been selected in the fifth round in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL Entry Draft in 1983 , he switched to the professional field in the summer of 1984 and immediately received a regular place in the Kings squad. Galley stayed with the Californians for a total of three years before he was transferred to the Washington Capitals for Al Jensen in February 1987 . There the defender played until the summer of 1988, when he then moved to the Boston Bruins as a free agent . With the Bruins he spent a successful time, which culminated in his only participation in a final series for the Stanley Cup in the 1989/90 season . At the beginning of 1992, the defender moved to fourth NHL team in his career, when he and Wes Walz and a third round vote in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft for Gord Murphy , Brian Dobbin and a third-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 to the Philadelphia Flyers made has been. Galley stayed with the Flyers until the 1994/95 season before they gave him up to the Buffalo Sabers for Petr Svoboda . After two years in Buffalo, he did not renew his contract there and returned to the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent for the next three years. His last season he played in the 2000/01 season with the New York Islanders , which he had also joined as a free agent in the summer of 2000.

International

Galley represented his homeland Canada at the 1993 and 1996 World Ice Hockey Championships . He finished fourth in 1993 and won the silver medal in 1996.
