James Neil "Jamie" Macoun (born August 17, 1961 in Hamilton , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who, during his active time from 1978 to 1999, for the Calgary Flames , Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings in National Hockey League has played.

Career

Jamie Macoun began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Junior Hockey League , in which he was active from 1978 to 1980 for the Newmarket Flyers and Aurora Tigers. He then attended Ohio State University for two and a half years and played for their team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association before signing a contract as a free agent with the Calgary Flames on January 30, 1983 . For the Canadians, the defender made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1982/83 season and was used in 31 games by the end of the season, in which he scored one goal and provided six assists. The following year he was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team after he was able to convince in the regular season with 32 scorer points in 72 games.

After nine years as a regular with the Calgary Flames, Macoun was on January 2, 1992 in a large-scale swap with Doug Gilmour , Ric Natress , Kent Manderville and Rick Wamsley in exchange for Gary Leeman , Oleksandr Hodynjuk , Jeff Reese , Michel Petit and Craig Berube surrendered to the Toronto Maple Leafs . With the so-called Original Six team , the Canadian international was also able to convince and even play the full 82 regular season games twice. Shortly before the end of the trade deadline , the Maple Leafs finally gave him in the 1997/98 season to the Detroit Red Wings , with whom he was able to win the prestigious Stanley Cup at the end of the season. In the playoffs he played a big part in this success with two goals and assists in 22 appearances. He then spent a season with the Michigan team before retiring in 1999 at the age of 37.

International

For Canada Macoun took part in the World Championships in 1985 , 1990 and 1991 . At the 1991 World Cup, he was voted the tournament's best defender.
