The Syracuse Eagles were an American ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League based in Syracuse , New York . The Eagles' venue was the Onondaga County War Memorial Coliseum .
history
The Syracuse Eagles were founded in 1974 as a franchise of the American Hockey League . A group, consisting of part of the owners of the Syracuse Blazers from the North American Hockey League , received permission to set up their own AHL franchise prior to the 1974/75 season. However, this had to share the fan base with the Blazers, who played in the NAHL and thus actually a league among the Eagles, but were much more successful and were playoff winners in the NAHL in 1974 and 1977, while the Eagles in their first and only AHL season missed the playoffs. As a result, the franchise was dissolved again in 1975.
