The Philadelphia Firebirds were an American ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League based in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . The venue for the Firebirds was the Philadelphia Civic Center .
history
The Philadelphia Firebirds was founded in 1974 as a franchise of the North American Hockey League . The Firebirds achieved their greatest success when they won the Lockhart Cup as a playoff winner in the NAHL in the 1975/76 season. After the league was dissolved in 1977, the Firebirds moved together with the Broome Dusters to the American Hockey League , where the Philadelphia team each played for a season as a farm team of the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Rockies from the National Hockey League and in theirs first AHL season (1977/78) immediately reached the playoffs, where they were defeated in the first round with 1: 3 wins to the New Haven Nighthawks .
After the team had missed the playoffs in the 1979/80 season, the franchise was relocated to Syracuse , New York , where it was active as the Syracuse Firebirds in the AHL in the 1979/80 season .
