Rostislav Čada (born May 31, 1954 in Brno , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current coach . Since 2020 he has been the head coach of the Bratislava Capitals from the international ICE Hockey League .

Career

Rostislav Čada began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of TJ Zetor Brno , for whose professional team he made his debut in the first division , the highest Czechoslovak division, in the 1973/74 season . In the following two years he did his military service and played meanwhile for the army sports club ASD Dukla Jihlava . He then returned to TJ Zetor Brno for another four years. From 1980 to 1983 he was in the second class 1. ČNHL on the ice, first for one season for HC Vyškov and then for two seasons for HC Žďár nad Sázavou . He then ended his active career at the age of 29.

From 1984 to 1988 Čada was active as a coach in the youth division of his home club TJ Zetor Brno. He then spent one season each as an assistant coach at the second division SK Královo Pole and at TJ Zetor Brno in the first division. From 1990 to 1995 the Czech was the head coach for HC Ascona from the 1st division , the third Swiss division. This was followed by two years with the U20 juniors of HC Ambrì-Piotta from National League A , where he was assistant coach from 1997 to 2001, before he took over as head coach at Ambrì for one and a half seasons. With the Swiss he won the IIHF Continental Cup as assistant coach in the 1999 season . During the 2002/03 season , he joined the SK Horácká Slavia Třebíč as head coach from the 1st division , the second Czech division.

In the 2003/04 season the Czech was behind the gang at HC Lasselsberger Plzeň in the Czech extra league, before he took care of his home club HC Kometa Brno in the first division from November 2004. In the 2005/06 season he was responsible for the U20 juniors of the Kloten Flyers in Switzerland. He started the 2006/07 season at HC Slovan Bratislava in the Slovakian Extraliga , but left it in December and signed a contract with Kometa Brno in the Czech 1st division. He stayed there until January 2008, before he was signed by HC Košice from the Slovak Extra League. During the 2008/09 season he replaced John Harrington as head coach at his ex-club HC Ambrì-Piotta in the Swiss NLA. He spent the following two years again at HC Košice in the Slovak extra league. With this he won the national championship title in 2010 and 2011 .

For the 2011/12 season , Čada was committed by HK Awangard Omsk from the Continental Hockey League . With this he immediately reached the playoff final for the Gagarin Cup , but lost in this with his team to the OHK Dynamo with 3: 4 wins. The following season he moved to the Slovak KHL newcomer HC Slovan Bratislava, where he was on the gang until September 2014. He was then committed by the Bílí Tygři Liberec from the Czech Extra League, where he replaced Pavel Hynek as head coach. A few months later, in January 2015, he resigned from this post for health reasons.

In the 2015/16 season, Čada was again head coach at HC Košice. In January 2017 he returned to Ambrì-Piotta as a U20 youth coach and was under contract there until the end of the 2018/19 season.

Since 2020 he has been in charge of the Bratislava Capitals from the international ICE Hockey League .
