Champion of the Austrian Ice Hockey League 1986/87 was the 23rd time in the club's history and for the third time in a row the EC KAC .

Bundesliga

The seven clubs played against each other four times in the regular season. The best six clubs qualified for the final round consisting of two rounds, with the first four clubs receiving 4, 3, 2 or 1 bonus points. Then in the semifinals the 1st met the 4th and the 2nd met the 3rd, the encounters were each played in the best of five mode.
