The UEC Mödling is an Austrian ice hockey club from Mödling ( Lower Austria ). The team has played in the Vienna league since the 2008/09 season. The UEC Mödling celebrated its last championship title in 2006 and 2007 when it won the Austrian ice hockey league (third highest division).

history

The UEC Mödling was founded in 1972, in 1981 the fighting team was promoted to the Regionalliga Ost-A, the UEC was thus for the first time No. 1 in Lower Austria. In the 1986/87 season he was the first Lower Austrian club to win the championship title of the Austrian National League and thus qualified for the Bundesliga. However, the chance of a Lower Austrian club taking part for the first time had to be postponed indefinitely, as the ice rink in the Mödling area, which is mandatory for the highest division, was still missing and could not be built. The construction of the ice rink became topical again in 1992 because of the renewed promotion to the National League. In 1998, "The Dragons" was added to the club's name, based on Mödling's coat of arms. The following year, promotion to the league was achieved. In the 2004/05 season the UEC "The Dragons" Mödling took part in the Lower Austria Upper Austria Ice Hockey League and the Lower Austrian State League. After an outstanding season, the UEC won the championship title in both leagues.

Championship title 2005/06

In the first season after promotion to the league, the Dragons won the championship cup of the 2005/06 season . A promotion to the national league is again not possible for the most successful ice hockey club in the largest federal state due to the lack of the required ice rink.

Since the 2008/09 season, the UEC Mödling has been participating with the first team in a championship operation in the Vienna league. The backbone of the team consists of former players from the farm team, the hobby team and some experienced UEC major league players.

offspring

In addition to the first team, the UEC II team and the senior team, UEC Mödling has five junior teams:

  • Under 17 (Lower Austria Regional League)
  • Under 14 (Lower Austria Regional League)
  • Under 12 (Lower Austria Regional League)
  • Under 10 (Lower Austria Regional League)
  • Learn to play (Under 8 / Rookies)

Thanks to the excellent youth work of the UEC Mödling, the various youth teams have been able to achieve considerable success over and over again in recent years. The young dragons, as they are affectionately known, were also very successful in the 2014/2015 season: The U17 team, under the leadership of coach Uwe Skacel, was able to bring the Lower Austrian championship title to Mödling for the third time in a row. In addition, the U14 team, trained by Wendy Petrik, was on the road to success, because after finishing third in the previous 2013/14 season, it was able to constantly improve in the 2014/15 season and win the runner-up title at the Lower Austrian state championship. The U12 had to be content with sixth place and the U10 also finished sixth in the Lower Austrian regional league.

Mödling ice arena

The Mödling ice arena is the venue for the UEC Mödling. It is part of the leisure center Stadtbad Mödling and was built in 1972. In 1987, as champions of the second-rate national league, the club was on the verge of leaping to the top. Since the ice arena only has a capacity of 1,000 spectators and does not meet the requirements for a license in the highest Austrian ice hockey league, the Mödlingers were denied promotion.
