The Austrian Ice Hockey League 1995/96 was held with a total of eight clubs. Champion was defending champion VEU Feldkirch for the third time in a row and for the seventh time in the club's history , who prevailed against the EC KAC in the final .

Participant and mode

The field of participants had shrunk by two teams to eight teams compared to the previous season : EC Ehrwald was relegated to the Tyrolean regional league for financial reasons, while EK Zell am See failed in the relegation against EV Zeltweg . Last year's Oberliga champions DSG Rotschitzen had not been promoted to the Bundesliga and had withdrawn from the national leagues.

After the Alpine League had paused the year before in favor of a European League Cup, this time it was played again before the national championships in Austria, Slovenia and Italy (see Alpine League 1995/96 ). There, VEU Feldkirch prevailed against seventeen other participants. With the following Austrian championship title, the VEU also managed to win both championships in one season for the first time and thus established a dominance in Austrian ice hockey that lasted until 1999. The CE Vienna qualified for the discharge 1996/97 of the European Hockey League .

In the regular season, the clubs played against each other four times, which resulted in a total of 28 games per team. The quarter-finals were played back and forth, with first wins and then goal difference counted. The semi-finals and finals were played in best-of-five mode.
