The Austrian Ice Hockey League 1991/92 was played with seven clubs. Champion became the second time in the club's history of the EC VSV , which prevailed in the final against EC Graz .

Participant and mode

The field of participants remained almost unchanged compared to the previous season. However, with the national league champions EK Zell am See , a seventh club was added. What was new, however, was the shortened championship. In the 1991/92 season the cross-border competition of the Alpine League was played for the first time , in which, in addition to the seven Austrian Bundesliga clubs, clubs from Italy and Slovenia also took part. This competition was played before the respective national championships, so that the Austrian ice hockey league only started in December. After the placements in the Alpine League, however, bonus points were given: EC VSV, EV Innsbruck, EC KAC and Wiener Eislauf-Verein started the championship with four, three, two or one bonus point. In the regular season, the clubs played against each other four times. The four best teams were qualified for the play-offs, which were played as semi-finals and finals in a best-of-three series.
