Giuseppe Mion (born April 9, 1959 in Villach ) is a former Austrian ice hockey player and association captain of the national ice hockey team , as well as the former managing director and chairman of the Bundesliga club EC VSV .

Career

Giuseppe Mion is the son of a master shoemaker working in Villach and joined the VSV at the age of eleven, where he was on the fighting team from 1977 to 1994 and played 653 games, scoring 51 goals and 198 assists. In 1981, 1992 and 1993 he was Austrian champion with the Villach team , and vice- champion in 1984, 1989 and 1991. With the national team he came to 63 missions and won the gold medal at the C World Championship in 1981 , the bronze medal at the B World Championship in 1987 and the gold medal at the B World Championship in 1992 . At the 1984 Winter Olympics , they reached tenth place. His jersey number is no longer assigned by the VSV.

After his active career, the trained textile merchant switched to the management staff of the VSV and became chairman of the association. He also looked after the national ice hockey team for 18 years as an association captain. He lives in Arnoldstein and had a daughter in 1991. In 2016 he was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honor of the Austrian Ice Hockey Association.

With EC VSV GmbH, the company now required for professional ice hockey operations was founded in August 2016, which Mion was the sole managing director. He also remained chairman of the association, which is practically the owner of the GmbH. In August 2017, he handed over the management to Ulfried Wallisch, which was unanimously approved by the board. In November 2017 Mion also resigned as chairman of the association, but continued to take care of coordination and partial sponsorship support in the GmbH. In January 2018, the VSV announced that Giuseppe Mion would resign from his position as part of the restructuring of the board at the end of the 2017/18 season.
