Jeffrey Geiger (born May 10, 1957 in Toronto , Canada , † February 8, 2021 in Villach , Austria ) was a Canadian-Austrian ice hockey player .
Career
Jeff Geiger played for the Canadian OMJHL team Ottawa 67’s from 1974 to 1978 , with whom he achieved significant success and was drawn in the eighth round of the 1977 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks . From the 1978/79 season, however, Geiger played exclusively for Austrian clubs and won the championship title of the Austrian ice hockey league six times . The three titles of the EC VSV and the three titles of the VEU Feldkirch were each the first titles in the club's history. He ended his playing career after the 1993/94 season. He played a total of 562 games as a defender in the Austrian League, scoring 124 goals and 415 assists .
National team
Immediately after his first season in Austria he received a call-up to the national team and played there as one of the first Austro-Canadians. In 1981 Geiger and the team made it back to the B group after the Austrians had relegated to the C group in 1979. In the two following years he won a silver and a bronze medal and thus remained in Group B. Geiger played in 52 international matches for the national team, scoring eight goals and 19 assists.

Jeff Geiger died after a long illness on February 8, 2021 at the age of 63 in his adopted home Villach.
