Leopold "Leo" Sivec (born August 3, 1958 in Villach ) is a former Austrian ice hockey player and coach who spent most of his active career at EC VSV in the Austrian ice hockey league .

Career

Leo Sivec's playful performance alongside Giuseppe Mion and Walter Wiedmaier played an important role in the VSV's ascent from the National League to the Bundesliga in 1977. Subsequently, Sivec was a member of the club's top squad until 1989, where he celebrated the first Austrian championship title in club history with the Villachers in 1981 could. The runner-up title was fought for in 1984 and 1989. During this time he led the list of the club's top goal scorers several times with legionaries such as Mike Hobin, Richard Grenier and Claude Lefebvre. With 251 hits, he also ranks fifth on the eternal VSV goalscorer list. From 1989 to 1992 he played for the league opponent EC Graz , with whom he was again runner-up in 1992. In total, he came to the Bundesliga on 15 seasons with 487 appearances, in which he scored 309 goals.

International

Leo Sivec was called up in 1978 as the first player in the history of the EC VSV to join the Austrian national team and made 73 appearances over the course of his career. At the World Championships in 1978 and 1981 he was able to move up to the B group with the team, and in 1984 he came tenth at the Winter Olympics .

After his active career, he was among other things coach of the VSV U15 until 2015. His sons Christoph and Alexander also played for the VSV, whereby Christoph Sivec was able to become Austrian champion with the Villach team in 2006.
