Kurt Harand (born September 11, 1957 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian ice hockey player who has worked as an ice hockey trainer and official since retiring.
Career
With the exception of two seasons, Harand spent his entire career at Wiener EV and represented Austria at eight World Championships and two Olympic Games. After retiring from active sport, he immediately took over the coaching position at Wiener EV, which he held from 1992 to 1996. During this time the association was renamed CE Vienna . After a season at EHC Fischerbräu (1996-97), he was the first coach of the newly founded Vienna Capitals (2001-2004) and, in his role as sports director in the 2003/04 season, hired the later master coach Jim Boni to the Capitals. In 2004 he took over the coaching position at Black Wings Linz , but was replaced by Mike Zettel during the 2005/06 season .
From January 2008 Harand worked for the men's national team and was initially assistant coach to Lars Bergström . During the 2008/09 season he was the head coach of the U18 national team in Austria and was also a consultant at ATSE Graz . In April 2009 he was introduced as the new head coach of the ATSE and made promotion from the upper to the national league with his new club.
At the World Championships in 2010 and 2011, Harand was again assistant coach of the men's national team, after which he took over the post of head coach in the junior division.
Harand is also the co-commentator for the live games of the Austrian ice hockey league on Sky .
In December 2013 Harand took over the position of sports director at UEC Mödling . After taking over the sporting management and deputy chairman of the league competitor WE-V, the cooperation with the UEC Mödling was ended again in February 2014.
family
Kurt Harand is married to Sonja Balun , who was a figure skater and has participated in a large number of international championships. Together they have two sons who play ice hockey like Kurt: Christoph and Patrick .
