Mike Zettel (born September 18, 1953 in Guelph , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player and current coach . He gained fame in Germany as the coach of the Krefeld Pinguine , which he led to the play-off semi- finals of the German Ice Hockey League in 1995 . He later trained, among other things, to eat mosquitoes .

Career

Mike Zettel started playing for the Kitchener Rangers in 1970 . He had six games there in the 1970/71 season, but was only on the field once in the following season. In the 1978/79 season he then played for EV Füssen , and in 1980/81 for ESV Kaufbeuren . He then moved to VfL Bad Nauheim , where he again stayed for a season before playing for Düsseldorfer EG in 1982/83 .

He began his coaching career in the 1989/90 season at EHC Freiburg . From 190/91 he then trained the Krevelder EV . He stayed there until 1995 and continued at EHC Biel from the 1996/97 season . In the 1998/99 season and the 1999/00 season he trained the Revierlöwen Oberhausen , in the 2000/01 and 2001/02 season at the same time the ESC Mosquitos Essen and the Revierlöwen Oberhausen. He then moved to Graz 99ers , where he was a trainer from 2003 to 2006. In the 2005/06 season he also trained EHC Black Wings Linz . In 2006/07 he was a trainer at EHC Chur , and in 2017/18 at the University of Waterloo Warriors.
