His first three years in Calgary were not particularly successful and he played mostly with the Flames' farm team in St. John . He played 19 games for Calgary. Marty moved to Europe and played a year at Villacher SV in the Austrian league . The following season he moved to the DEL to the Cologne Sharks . After he was top scorer again at both stations in Europe, he returned to Calgary, but was mostly used again in St. John. In 2001 he moved to the Philadelphia Flyers . There he was able to fight for a place in the main lineup for two years. For the 2003/04 season he moved to the Carolina Hurricanes , but was not particularly successful there.

After the NHL lockout, Marty healed his knee injury. In the 2005/06 season he played in the DEL for the Hanover Scorpions , with whom he reached the semi-finals. He scored seven goals in 24 games and provided 15 templates.

Marty got an offer from the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL in June 2006 , which he also accepted. Marty is turning his back on the Hannover Scorpions after only one year to try again in the best league in the world. According to Murray's statements, he really wanted to go hunting for points for the Flyers again.

However, he was only in the Flyers' farm team , the Philadelphia Phantoms , and received clearance in November 2006, after which the Los Angeles Kings took the opportunity to sign him. After 19 games with the Kings, he was sent to their farm team, the Manchester Monarchs , in the AHL .

For the 2007/08 season Murray moved to Switzerland for HC Lugano . There he scored seven goals in 49 games and provided 25 templates. For the 2009/10 season he moved to Canada to the Manitoba Moose , where he played 59 games and collected 30 points scorer. After only one year with the Moose, he was drawn to the Milwaukee Admirals , where the striker ended his active career in the summer of 2010.
