Bradley Wilfred Schlegel (born July 22, 1968 in Kitchener , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player .
Career
societies
Brad Schlegel started his ice hockey career in 1985 with the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League . There, the right-shooting attacking defender attracted attention, especially in his third season, when he collected 101 points in 78 games. In the 1988 NHL Entry Draft , he was drawn by the Washington Capitals in 144th place. After he played for Team Canada between 1988 and 1991, the Capitals brought him to their team for the 1991/92 season . However, in his first two years in the NHL, he was constantly commuting between Washington and its Baltimore ( AHL ) farm team . That is why he moved to the Calgary Flames in 1993 , where he was also only used sporadically.
A year later he moved to Europe to EC Villacher SV , where Schlegel found his way back to old strength with 45 points from 40 games. Due to his good performances in Austria, the EC Hanover noticed him and signed him for the DEL . However, the guest appearance ended after only a few missions and Schlegel returned to Villach, where he played for the VSV until 2000. During his second engagement in Austria , he impressed with high scoring rates. In 1997 he was elected to the All-Star Team of the Alpine League . For the 2000/01 season he moved again to Germany for the Schwenninger Wild Wings .
Only one year later he was signed by the Kölner Haie , with whom Schlegel wanted to play for the championship and because he did not see this chance in Schwenningen . This wish was fulfilled in his first season in Cologne : at the end of a turbulent year, he won the German championship with the Haien . In 2002/03 he was runner-up with the Cologne team, and in 2004 he won the trophy with the KEC . Until 2006 Schlegel was always one of the best players and since the 2004/05 season he was also team captain at the KEC. In the middle of the season, however, he was thrown back by a cruciate ligament tear , with the consequences of which he had to struggle for a long time and because of which he missed many games. After the 2005/06 season , in which he reached the semi-finals with the KEC, he decided to move to the Hanover Scorpions . After a season in Hanover, he ended his active career.
International
Since the beginning of his career, Schlegel played repeatedly for Canadian selection teams. From 1988 to 1991 he played exclusively for the national team. In 1991 , 1992 , 1995 and 2002 he took part in the world championships for his country. He won silver in 1991 and bronze three years later. He also played at the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics , where he won the silver medal.
