Career

Alan Haworth first played for Drummondville Olympique in a lower class Canadian junior league. From 1976 the attacker was in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League in action. He first went on the ice for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens for two years before Haworth continued his career with the Sherbrooke Castors . During this time he was selected by the Buffalo Sabers in the fifth round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft at a total of 95th position . For the Sabers, the Canadian was first on October 29, 1980 in the National Hockey League on the ice, when Haworth was used in the encounter against the Pittsburgh Penguins . He managed a good rookie season with 36 points from 49 games of the regular season. After he had played in a row with Gilbert Perreault in the 1980/81 season, Tony McKegney and Dale McCourt played with him in a row in the following season . During his time with the Sabers, Haworth played mostly on the right wing position. In his later engagement with the Washington Capitals, however , the Canadian was active as a left winger and temporarily acted as a center. In addition to playing with the Sabers, the attacker also gained game practice with their farm team , the Rochester Americans , in the American Hockey League .

In June 1982 it was bartered to the Washington Capitals. Five years in a row he was there continuously in the NHL squad and reached in the 1985/86 season with 73 points in the regular season, his career best. After five seasons in the capital, he was transferred to the Québec Nordiques in June 1987 together with Gaétan Duchesne and a first-round suffrage in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft for Clint Malarchuk and Dale Hunter . Haworth completed a season for the Nordiques before he decided to leave the NHL. In total, he scored 189 goals and 211 assists in 524 NHL regular season games .

Haworth then moved to SC Bern in the National League A and played there from 1989 to 1992, after which he ended his playing career. Between 1989 and 1991 he was three times in the playoff final against HC Lugano and won this two times. In his final season in 1992, he became champions for the third time with the SCB, thanks to a final victory over Friborg-Gottéron .

On December 1, 2002 Haworth became head coach at the Swiss NLB club EHC Olten . In the 2003/04 season he returned to his former home club SC Bern and took on the role of assistant coach. In his first season he was champion in the Swiss federal city. In the following 2004/05 season , the Canadian was promoted to head coach before he was removed from office in November 2004 with the then reigning champions. This was followed by engagements in the same position at the Austrian first division club HC Innsbruck and Thetford Mines Isothermic in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey , before the Canadian hired as a scout for the Washington Capitals for the 2009/10 season .
