Rob Pallin (born November 19, 1966 in Chisholm , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey coach who was under contract as head coach at HC Innsbruck from 2016 to April 2020 . He has been training ESV Kaufbeuren since 2020 .

Player career

As a teenager, Pallin played in Minnesota for the Austin Mavericks and won the USHL championship with them in 1984.

Pallin then played ice hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth and at Western Michigan University before signing his first professional contract with German second division club EC Bad Toelz in 1991. In the 1993/94 season he played for another club in Germany, the fourth division club EV Bad Wörishofen . 1997/98 he was with the French hockey club de Cergy-Pontoise under contract.

By the end of his career in 1999, Pallin played in North America in the Pacific Southwest Hockey League and West Coast Hockey League .

Coaching career

Pallin initially worked in Las Vegas as a youth coach with the Las Vegas Mustangs, Las Vegas Outlaws and Las Vegas Rebels.

Between 2006 and 2011 he was the head coach of the ice hockey team at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas , followed by a two-year term (2011-2013) as assistant coach with the Las Vegas Wranglers from the ECHL .

For the 2013/14 season, Pallin was hired as head coach of the Hungarian club SAPA Fehervar AV19 , which takes part in the Austrian EBEL . At the beginning of January 2016 they separated, a few weeks later Pallin was signed by Fehervar's relay competitor HC TWK Innsbruck as head coach for the 2016/17 season. He stayed in Innsbruck until April 2020 when he said goodbye to the club, although according to the sporting management there was an oral agreement for further cooperation. Pallin, on the other hand, felt held back. During his tenure, he had led Innsbruck to participate in the championship round twice.

On April 10, 2020 it was announced that Pallin will train ESV Kaufbeuren in DEL2 with immediate effect .

Personal

Pallin began ice skating on frozen ponds in his hometown of Chisholm at the age of three. He is the youngest of nine siblings. His father was a teacher at a Catholic school in Minnesota .
