Sami Pauli Blomqvist (born June 12, 1990 in Örnsköldsvik , Sweden ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract in the DEL2 at ESV Kaufbeuren since December 2016 . His father Timo Blomqvist was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Sami Blomqvist was born in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden , while his father Timo was under contract with MoDo Hockey Örnsköldsvik . He himself learned to play ice hockey in the youth department of the Espoo Blues and worked there through the youth teams up to the U20 team.

In 2008 Blomqvist made his debut in the Finnish first division , but could only book one game and continued to play in the Finnish A-Junior-SM-liiga. The following season he was the second best scorer there. In the following years, however, he was initially unable to assert himself in the SM-liiga and shuttled back and forth between the first and second division. After a year in the Danish Metal Ligaen and good performances in the Mestis , he signed a contract with HIFK for the 2014/15 season and from then on played again in the top Finnish league. In the 2015/16 season he switched to league rivals Vaasan Sport , but was unable to convince here, especially in his second season, which meant that his contract was terminated in December 2016.

He then moved to Germany to ESV Kaufbeuren , where he was able to convince straight away. After a contract extension in the summer of 2017, he was the sixth-best scorer in the DEL2 main round in the 2017/18 season with 66 points . In April 2018, Blomqvist extended his contract in Kaufbeuren for another year.

In the 2018/19 season, Blomqvist improved again and scored 70 points in 50 games in the main round. In the game against Deggendorfer SC on October 21, 2018, he scored seven goals. In March 2019, Blomqvist extended his current contract for another year.
