Aaron Fox (born May 19, 1976 in Hastings , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player who was active in the Austrian national ice hockey league for HC Innsbruck , HK Jesenice and the Vienna Capitals . He also played in Germany for SC Riessersee , Wölfe Freiburg and Straubing Tigers . Between May 2013 and December 2018 he was sports director at KHL Medveščak Zagreb , and from summer 2018 head coach.

Career

Fox began his career with the Green Bay Gamblers in the American Junior League USHL and joined the University of Minnesota team in the NCAA in 1997 . There he performed consistently well, which is why he was active for two games with the Milwaukee Admirals during his final year of college . His first professional engagement followed with the Peoria Rivermen . That same season he tried his luck in Europe, where he first played in the Czech Republic and then helped out the Swiss National League A club HC Ambrì-Piotta in the playoffs. Nevertheless, he then returned to the East Coast Hockey League for a year before finally making the leap to Europe in 2002.

Aaron Fox (October 2009)

After a good season in the second German Bundesliga , he ended the 2003/04 season at HC Innsbruck in the Austrian ice hockey league after his previous employer, SC Riessersee , went bankrupt. Fox returned to the 2nd Bundesliga a year later and had two more good seasons there with Wölfen Freiburg before he was signed by HK Jesenice , which made its debut in the Austrian league in 2006/07 . Together with the Slovenian brothers Marcel and David Rodman , he formed one of the most successful storm lines in the league and was fourth best scorer in the league with a total of 92 points, although Jesenice still narrowly missed the playoffs.

In the following year, he and his line colleagues moved to the Vienna Capitals , where he made it to first place in the top scorer with a total of 72 points, but was eliminated with his team in the semi-finals. In the 2008/09 season, however, he injured his hand very early and had to pause almost the entire season. The Capitals then did not extend the contract with him and he switched again to a new league, the KHL Medveščak Zagreb from Croatia, where he played in a line with Thomas Jason Guidarelli as a few years earlier in Garmisch and Innsbruck. In 2010 he signed a contract with EC Dornbirn and has since played in the second highest Austrian league. For the following season, the American was hired by league competitor HC Innsbruck, with whom he won the championship of the Austrian National League in the 2011/12 season. He then extended his contract for one year in June 2012.

In 2013 he ended his career and became sports director at KHL Medveščak Zagreb .

Due to the precarious financial situation of Medveščak Zagreb, the entire sporting management left the club on December 10, 2018.
