Marcel Rodman (born September 25, 1981 in Rodine , SR Slovenia ) is a former Slovenian ice hockey player who now works as a coach . In the course of his career he was mainly active in the Austrian ice hockey league and in the second German division, today's DEL2 . With HK Jesenice he became Slovenian champion three times , and for many years he was a member of the Slovenian national team , with which he participated in a total of 13 world championships and the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Career
Rodman began his career in the youth teams of HK Jesenice before moving to North America in 1998, where he played in the Ontario Junior Hockey League for a year before joining the Peterborough Petes , who pulled him in the first round of the CHL Import Draft had. Despite performing well in the Ontario Hockey League , he returned to Europe after his third year overseas. In the following years he changed teams several times, also completed a season in the German Ice Hockey League , but kept returning to his regular team from Jesenice . Most recently he played continuously with his brother David , with whom he also formed one of the most successful strikers in the Austrian ice hockey league in the 2006/07 season together with Aaron Fox . Despite the good performance Jesenice failed in the debut season in the EBEL, however, narrowly at the playoff participation. As a result, the entire formation was signed by the Vienna Capitals , but the three could not repeat their performance due to a protracted injury to Fox. After another year in Jesenice, Marcel returned to Vienna with his brother in 2009, where he was active for the following three years. In the 2012/2013 season Rodman was with the Bietigheim Steelers champions of the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga . There the attacker was the best scorer of his team and second best in the entire league behind Daniel Hacker .
In the summer of 2013 he joined the Schwenninger Wild Wings from the German Ice Hockey League , only to move to the Croatian top club KHL Medveščak Zagreb in the Continental Hockey League one season later . In December 2014 he left Medveščak after nine games and moved to EC KAC in Klagenfurt , where he was on the ice in the Austrian ice hockey league until the end of the 2014/15 season. He then returned to the second German division, where he was taken under contract by the Dresden Ice Lions . However, he did not play a competitive game there in the 2015/16 season due to injury. After mixed performances during the 2016/17 season, he left the Eislöwen in January 2017 and switched back to the Bietigheim Steelers. In the 2017/18 season Rodman was under contract with the DEL2 promoted EC Bad Tölz before he ended his career and became assistant coach at KHL Medveščak Zagreb.
In December 2018 he was appointed head coach of HDD Jesenice .
International
For Slovenia , Rodman took part in the junior division of the U20 Junior C World Championships in 1999 and 2000 and the World Championship of Division II in 2001 .
In the senior division, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2001 , 2007 , 2009 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 as well as in the World Championships in the Top Division in 2002 , 2003 , 2005 , 2006 , 2008 , 2011 , 2013 and 2015 . He has been the assistant captain of Slovenia since the 2009 World Cup, after leading his team onto the ice as team captain in 2007 and 2008. He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi, as well as at the Winter Games in Sochi itself, in which the Slovenes took a surprising seventh place.
