Valery Borisovich Kharlamov ( Russian Валерий Борисович Харламов ; born January 14, 1948 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ; † August 27, 1981 near Solnnogorsk ) was a Soviet ice hockey player and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame .
Career
His career began on October 22, 1967 in the legendary HK CSKA Moscow army club . But after one game he was transferred to Zwezda from Chebarkul along with defender Alexander Gusew , where he was the team's most dangerous striker with 34 goals in 40 games.
On March 10, 1968, he was brought back by the CSKA. Here he was able to achieve 293 goals and 214 assists in 436 games . With CSKA he was eleven times Soviet champion . His combination of speed, strength and intelligence made him interesting for the Soviet national team very early on . With her he won two Olympic gold medals, eight world championships , seven European championships , was elected four times to the World Cup all-star team and in 1972 was the top scorer wearing the "Sbornaja" jersey. His biggest defeat was at the 1980 Winter Olympics in the legendary game ( Miracle on Ice ) against the USA , which was lost 3: 4. With his partners Boris Michailow (right winger ) and Wladimir Petrow ( center ) he formed a great assault line, which preceded the famous KLM series .

Wladislaw Tretjak , also a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, said of him: "His talents were God-given and he could do practically everything - a smart play, a tricky pass, a precise shot. Everything he did looked so easy, so elegant . His execution of hockey was aesthetic and he amazed millions. Kharlamov and his wife died in a tragic car accident on August 27, 1981 on their way home from vacation.
In 1998 he was honored posthumously with admission to the IIHF Hall of Fame , in 2004 with admission to the Russian Hockey Hall of Fame and in 2005 with admission to the Hockey Hall of Fame . As early as 1969 he had received a similar honor in the USSR, when he was named Honored Master of Sport .
