Medal "For Heroic Work"
The medal “For heroic work” ( Russian Медаль “За трудовую доблесть” ) was a civilian award of the Soviet Union , which honored particularly deserving workers for dedicated and valuable work or significant contributions in the fields of science, culture or manufacturing. The award was established on December 27, 1938 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR . During its existence, the statute was amended three times by further decrees, first on June 19, 1943 to change its description and ribbon, then on December 16, 1947 to change the award regulations, and finally on July 18, 1980 to confirm any previous changes. During its existence of a little over fifty years, the medal was awarded to nearly two million deserving citizens. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991, the medal was no longer awarded.
