Çingiz Abdullayev
Çingiz Abdullayev ( Russian Чингиз Абдуллаев ; * 1959 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani writer.
Unlike many other writers in his country who have studied philosophy, Abdullayev has a doctorate in law . After graduating from Baku State University in 1981, he worked for the Soviet Ministry of Defense as a secret agent . He was wounded twice in the exercise of his duty. Abdullayev was awarded the Order of the Red Banner and the Order of the Red Star by the Soviet government . The decision to make a living as a writer was largely influenced by the death of a colleague friend of mine who was murdered on the streets of Angola in 1983.
Abdullayev wrote his first novel in 1985, set in the intelligence community. Because of the secrets revealed therein, its publication was initially prohibited; In 1988 the book was finally able to appear after the state control was relaxed. His novel made him famous, and a year later he gave up his job with the secret service.
In his numerous agent and detective novels, he draws on experiences from his previous secret service activities. To date, he has written more than 86 novels and short stories that have been translated into 17 languages and distributed in 23 countries.
The doctor of law has been Vice President of PEN International since 1992 .
