Nikolai Sykov

Nikolai Wiktorowitsch Sykow ( Russian: Николай Викторович Зыков ; born May 8, 1965 in Moscow ) is a Soviet and Russian actor, director, artist, puppet designer and puppeteer .

Personal background

Nikolai Sykov was born in Moscow in 1965 into a family of engineers whose life was not focused on art. He is the son of Viktor Sykow, a physicist, inventor and candidate of science, and Tatiana Sykowa (née Smyslova), a teacher.

When Sykov was five years old, his parents sent him to the puppet theater of Sergei Obraszow , which belonged to Nikolai Sykov's great-uncle.

After training, Sykov opened his own theater in his home and made puppet shows for his parents and younger sister. His dolls were assemblies of individuals wrapped in wire.

  • 1982–1988: Moscow State Aviation Institute - Russian Aerospace University (Construction and Design of Electro-Mechanical Systems) Received his Master of Science degree.

Dolls

Sykov started making dolls for his puppet shows in 1977. In 1980 he made his first doll called Vignette . In 1985 he created his first solo puppet show and founded his own professional Nikolai Sykow Theater. To date, he has made more than 100 puppets ( marionettes , hand puppets , stick hand puppets , giant figures, objects, radio-controlled figures) and is still developing new technologies for them.

Sykov has been a member of the Russian Authors' Organization since 1997.

Sykov took part in many popular television shows in the USSR, Russia and abroad with his puppets. From 1994 to 1995 Sykov hosted the children's TV show "Every Day is Vacation" on Russian state television.
