Christián Jaroš (born April 2, 1996 in Košice ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League since May 2017 and for their farm team , the Belleville Senators , in the American Hockey League's position Defender plays.

Career

Jaroš spent his junior years until he was 17 in the youth department of HC Košice , the ice hockey club in his native town. From there, the defender, who was selected in the third round in the third round of the 2013 KHL Junior Draft in the 68th place by the Latvian club Dinamo Riga , moved to Sweden. He moved to Luleå HF's junior squad . There he went through the U18 and U20 teams before he made his debut for the professional team in the Svenska Hockeyligan during the 2014/15 season . In addition, the Slovak was temporarily on loan in the squad of the second division Asplöven HC . Nevertheless, Jaroš won the Champions Hockey League with Luleå and established himself in the Swedish club's squad in the following two seasons.

After the defender had already been selected in the fifth round in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators from the National Hockey League , they signed him in May 2017 and immediately brought him to North America. During the 2017/18 season , Jaroš was mainly part of the Belleville Senators farm team in the American Hockey League . Nevertheless, he also made his debut for Ottawa in the NHL.

International

For his home country, Jaroš was on the ice in the junior division at numerous international tournaments. The defender made his first appearance at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2013 , in which Slovakia finished eighth. He also played at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2014 , but without advancing into the medal ranks. At the U20 World Junior Championship in 2015 , the defender and the team took third place. In the following year, this success could not be repeated with the achievement of seventh place.

Jaroš made his debut for the Slovak senior national team during the 2014/15 season. This was followed by participation in the 2016 World Cup in Russia , which the Slovaks finished in ninth place. At the World Championships in Denmark in 2018 and in his Slovak homeland in 2019 , the defensive player was once again part of the national team.
