Stephen Dixon (born September 7, 1985 in Halifax , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Cardiff Devils from the Elite Ice Hockey League since July 2018 .
Career
Stephen Dixon began his career as a hockey player with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles , for which he was active in the Canadian junior league QMJHL from 2001 to 2005 . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the seventh round as a total of 229th player by the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he however never played. Instead, the center ran from 2005 to 2007 for Pittsburgh's farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins from the American Hockey League . However, since he did not come to Pittsburgh to use in the National Hockey League , he was given by his team on June 23, 2007 in exchange for Tim Brent to the Anaheim Ducks . There, too, he could not prevail, so he was on the ice for their AHL farm team Portland Pirates during the entire 2007/08 season .
In the summer of 2008 Dixon went to Europe for the first time, where he received a contract with Brynäs IF from the Swedish Elitserien . There he became a regular player straight away and assistant captain in his second year. He was then committed for the 2010/11 season by the Russian club Amur Khabarovsk from the Continental Hockey League .
From August 2011 he was under contract with Ässät Pori before he left the club in January 2013 and was signed by Lokomotive Yaroslavl until the end of the season.
From October 2013 he was then under contract with HK Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk and completed 42 KHL games and 6 games in the Nadezhda Cup for the club. He then left the KHL and returned to Sweden to Luleå HF . There he suffered an injury and was therefore rarely used. In December 2014, Tappara Tampere was therefore handed over. In the 2015/16 season he won the Finnish championship with Tappara ; In 64 games he scored eight goals and eleven assists. After this success, however, he did not receive a new contract with Tappara and was signed in October 2016 by the Grizzlys Wolfsburg from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) .
International
For Canada , Dixon took part in the 2003 U18 World Junior Championships and the 2004 and 2005 U20 World Junior Championships . In all three tournaments he won medals with his country (2 × gold, 1 × silver). In 19 games at the Junior World Championships, the Canadian scored three goals and provided five assists.
