Tomáš Záborský (born November 14, 1987 in Trenčín , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with Tappara in the Finnish Liiga since 2017 .
Career
Tomáš Záborský began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HC Dukla Trenčín , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Slovakian extra league in the 2005/06 season . In his rookie year he remained pointless in four games and received two penalty minutes. In addition, he completed five games as a loan player for HK 95 Považská Bystrica in the first division , the second Slovak division. Then the winger was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the fifth round as a total of 137th player by the New York Rangers . First, however, he played for two years for the Saginaw Spirit in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , before he came towards the end of the 2007/08 season in two games for the Rangers farm team Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League , where he was used prepared a gate. In the following season he appeared in parallel for Hartford in the AHL and the Charlotte Checkers and Dayton Bombers in the ECHL .
For the 2009/10 season Záborský returned to Europe and signed a contract with Ässät Pori from the Finnish SM-liiga . There he was able to improve every year in the following years before he achieved his final breakthrough in the 2011/12 season . First he was elected Player of November and December, before he won the Lasse Oksanen Trophy as the best player in the main round, the Kultainen kypärä as the best player in the SM-liiga season and the Aarne Honkavaara Trophy as the best main round at the end of the season - Goalscorer received.
Because of these successes, Záborský was taken in early June 2012 by HK Awangard Omsk from the Continental Hockey League under contract, where he immediately advanced to the club's top scorer. In mid-October 2013, the management of Awangard swapped him for Štefan Ružička from Salawat Julajew Ufa . In his second KHL year he was unable to build on the performance shown and therefore returned to the Finnish Liiga in summer 2014, this time to the HIFK .
International
For Slovakia , Záborský took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2007 . During the tournament he scored one goal and two assists in six games.
