The Jordal Amfi was a multi-purpose hall in the Norwegian capital, Oslo . The hall was the home ground of the ice hockey club Vålerenga Ishockey from the GET-ligaen .
history
The Jordal Amfi was built after a year of construction for the 1952 Winter Olympics , when the stadium was the main venue for the ice hockey tournament. Also, some decisions in figure skating took place in the stadium during the winter games . The ice rink was the venue for the 1958 Ice Hockey World Championship . It was not until 1971 that the Jordal Amfi received a roof structure. At the men's ice hockey world championship in Norway in 1999 , the Jordal Amfi was one of the three venues alongside the Håkons Hall in Lillehammer and the Hamar Olympiske Amfi . The hall was expanded beforehand on the occasion of the tournament.
In addition to ice hockey games, handball and floorball games were also held in the Jordal Amfi . Occasionally the arena was also used for boxing matches and concerts.
In 2017 the old hall was demolished to make way for the Nye Jordal Amfi as a successor. Construction work began in May of that year. The hall should offer around 5,500 seats. The opening of Vålerenga's new home is planned for autumn 2020.
