The Zimní stadion Luďka Čajky ( German Winter Stadium Luděk Čajka ) is an ice rink in the Czech city of Zlín . Since 1990 it has been named after the ice hockey player Luděk Čajka . The hall, which was originally opened in 1957, is the home ground of PSG Zlín .
history
The originally open winter sports stadium in Zlín was built in 1957. Five years later, the stadium was roofed, and from then on it offered space for 7,500 spectators. By converting seats into VIP seats and building sky boxes, the capacity later fell to 6,975 spectators.
On January 6, 1990 Luděk Čajka was injured so badly in the head in the away game VSŽ Košice against TJ Gottwaldov (today: PSG Zlín) after a clash with the gang that he died in a coma at the age of 26 in mid-February of that year . In memory of him, the hall was renamed Zimní stadium Luďka Čajky .
In its history, the stadium was sold out three times, each time against HC Vsetín . The club recorded the highest average attendance in the 1998/99 season , when an average of 7,267 spectators followed the games in the stadium.
