Nikolai Sergejewitsch Goldobin ( Russian: Николай Сергеевич Голдобин ; English transcription: Nikolai Sergeyevich Goldobin ; born October 7, 1995 in Moscow ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK CSKA Moscow from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) since June 2020 there plays on the position of the right winger .
Career
Goldobin began with ice hockey in the Belje Medvedi sports school in Moscow and later moved to the youth department of HK CSKA Moscow . He spent the 2010/11 season with the U16 and U17 juniors of Krylya Sowetow Moscow . After a one-year interlude in the youth of Vityas Chekhov and the selection in eighth place in the first round in the KHL Junior Draft 2012 by Metallurg Novokuznetsk , the striker moved to North America. There he played from 2012 to 2014 for the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League . In the NHL Entry Draft 2014 , the San Jose Sharks from the National Hockey League (NHL) finally selected him in the first round in 27th position.
The Sharks signed Goldobin in September 2014 and awarded him - in consultation with his advisor Igor Larionow - to HIFK Helsinki from the Finnish Liiga for the 2014/15 season . It wasn't until April 2015 that they brought the Russian back to California and from then on used him on their farm team , the Worcester Sharks , in the American Hockey League (AHL). With the relocation of the team, he came to the AHL for the San Jose Barracuda in autumn 2015 . He finished the 2015/16 season as the team's top scorer. He also came to his first nine NHL appearances for the San Jose Sharks, in which he managed a goal and an assist. The Russian spent the 2016/17 season , with the exception of two NHL appearances in February 2017, exclusively in the AHL with the Barracuda. There he was one of the leading players and played a key role in ensuring that the team was at the top of the league at the end of February. Shortly before the trade deadline , he was given to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for the Dane Jannik Hansen and a conditional four-round vote in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft .
In Vancouver, the Russian finally seemed to establish himself in the NHL from the 2018/19 season after commuting between the Canucks' NHL roster and the AHL roster of the Utica Comets farm team during the 2017/18 season . In the 2019/20 season , however, there was a step backwards with the transfer to the farm team. In June 2020, Goldobin ended his North American adventure when he returned to his home country and joined HK CSKA Moscow from the Continental Hockey League (KHL).
International
Goldobin represented his homeland in the junior division at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2012 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2015 . There the Russian team took second place and won the silver medal. He himself contributed five scorer points in seven tournament games.
