Igor Valerjewitsch Nikitin ( Russian Игорь Валерьевич Никитин , scientific transliteration Igor 'Valer'evič Nikitin ; born March 23, 1973 in Ust-Kamenogorsk , Kazakh SSR ) is a former Kazakh - Russian ice hockey player and current - coach . Since May 2017 he has been the head coach of HK CSKA Moscow from the Continental Hockey League .

Player career

Igor Nikitin started his career at Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk . In 1994 he moved to HK Lada Tolyatti , with whom he won the championship in the International Hockey League in 1996. In 1996 the defender went to Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk . After one season he was signed by HK Awangard Omsk , with whom he won the Russian championship in 2004. In 2006 he moved to Novosibirsk, where he ended his active career in 2008.

In 1998 Nikitin was appointed to the Kazakh national team and took part in the 1998 Winter Olympics.

Nikitin has been an assistant coach in the Russian national team since 2011. In 2018 he was Oleg Snarok's assistant coach at the 2018 Winter Olympics .

In May 2017 he was promoted to head coach of the HK CSKA Moscow first team .
