Vyacheslav Gennadjewitsch Buzajew ( Russian Вячеслав Геннадьевич Буцаев ; born June 13, 1970 in Tolyatti , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player who has worked as an ice hockey coach since the end of his career. His brother Yuri is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
For the 1986/87 season the striker began his career with Torpedo Tolyatti . In 1989/90 he then moved to HK CSKA Moscow . After he was selected in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round in 109th place, he dared the leap to North America in 1992/93. In total, he scored 43 goals in 135 games in the Soviet league . He was appointed to the Soviet national ice hockey team at an early age . On May 13, 1990, he was in a game against Japan for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. On November 10, 1991, he played his last international match for the USSR . He was also a member of the Russian national ice hockey team . His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics . In 1992 he was inducted into the " Russian Hockey Hall of Fame ".
During his time in the National Hockey League , he played for the Philadelphia Flyers , San Jose Sharks , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , Florida Panthers , Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators . In 132 games he scored 17 goals and 26 assists.
In 2001 he returned to Russia and played for Lokomotive Yaroslavl . He spent the 2004/05 season at Severstal Tscherepowez and HK CSKA Moscow . He spent the 2005/06 season at HK MWD Moskovskaya Oblast . Most recently, he was in the 2006/07 season with HK Dmitrov in the Wysschaja Liga , the second highest Russian division, under contract.
For the 2010/11 season Buzayev was head coach of the MHL team Kransaja Armija , before he was assistant coach at HK CSKA Moscow in December 2011 . In February 2012, Buzayev was promoted to acting head coach after Július Šupler had previously been fired. In the 2012/13 season Buzayev first acted as assistant coach of Valery Bragin , before he was dismissed in December 2012 and Buzayev was again appointed as interim coach.
In the 2013/14 season he was again assistant coach at ZSKA before he was appointed head coach of the newly founded HK Sochi for the 2014/15 season . At the same time, he also acted as the club's manager before receiving a contract extension at the end of the 2016/17 season.
