Karl Wagner (since 1879: Karl Wagner Ritter von Inngau ; born January 14, 1819 in Schärding , † April 20, 1893 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lawyer who served as President of the Vienna Commercial Court from 1876 to 1887 .

Karl Magnus Wagner was born on January 14, 1819 at three o'clock in the morning in house No. 84 in Schärding (for the house number see below) as the son of Vinzenz Wagner, a bourgeois linen and fabric weaver from Schärding and his wife Theresia, née. Hoffmann, born and baptized that same day at half past four in the afternoon. The child's godfather was Matthias Goldinger, a bourgeois master binder from Schärding. The aforementioned Vinzenz Wagner and his wife had owned the weaver's house in Schärding since 1809 (house number in 1805: No. 84; in 1851: No. 88; now: Lamprechtstrasse 6), which they sold on to Martin and Maria Zechmeister in 1829. 1818 bought the stuff Weber Vinzenz Wagner the stuff makers house on the Upper Town Square (house number 1805: No. 16; in 1851: Nr. 17; now. Silberzeile 16) up for sale to Mathias and Crescence Beham in 1879 in the family Wagner found which trades there as fabric weaver and grocer . Karl Wagner attended (at the same time as the later philologist and writer Franz Xaver Schmid ) the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster . After completing his Matura with distinction , he began studying law at the University of Vienna .

After completing his legal studies in 1841, Wagner became an auscultator at the kk Stadt- und Landrecht in Linz , in 1850 a judge at the regional court in Linz , then as a district court council judge at the district court Ried im Innkreis , in 1856 as a district court council judge at the district court in Wels , 1857 as regional court council judge at the regional court Vienna , in 1870 higher regional court councilor in Vienna , in 1874 vice-president of the Imperial and Royal Commercial and Exchange Court Vienna and finally in 1876 its actual president . In 1879 he was ennobled by Emperor Franz Joseph by being awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Leopold and was now called Ritter Wagner von Inngau . When he retired as President of the Imperial and Royal Commercial Court of Vienna in 1887, Emperor Franz Joseph appointed him a member of the Supreme State Court.

Karl Ritter Wagner von Inngau died on April 20, 1893 at the age of 74 in Vienna and was buried on April 24 in the family grave at the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 31A, Row 1, No. 33).

The coat of arms of Karl Wagner von Inngau, awarded by the knighthood diploma issued in Vienna on August 14, 1879, was: Divided by a silver wave bar ; above, in black, a growing, golden, red-tongued lion, carrying a red-laced bundle of lictors with an ax in both paws in front of him by stake; below in red three silver lilies (2: 1). Two crowned helmets: I a golden, red-tongued lion growing; II a closed flight , red at the front and covered with a gold wagon wheel (allusion to the Wagner family name), silver at the back . Covers: right black and gold, left red and silver.

Karl Wagner von Inngau and his wife Theresia, who died in June 1893, had two daughters, Therese (1850–1938) and Marie (1851–1858). While Marie died at the age of seven, Therese married the Viennese court and court lawyer Dr. Karl Koppler. Since Karl Wagner von Inngau had no male descendants, the predicate "von Inngau", his coat of arms and the hereditary knighthood were transferred to his son-in-law by the highest resolution of Emperor Franz Joseph of April 14, 1883 "by special mercy" (ministerial confirmation document from May 22, 1883), who was then allowed to call himself Ritter Koppler von Inngau . Dr. Karl Koppler von Inngau died in December 1918 at the age of 74 without a male heir, his widow Therese died in January 1938 at the age of 88. All five named persons are buried in the family grave mentioned above in the Vienna Central Cemetery . From the marriage of Dr. Karl Koppler with Therese, b. Wagner, the daughters Marianne, who were the councilor Dr. Heinrich Röttinger married, and Alberta, the lawyer Dr. Emil Sueß (a nephew of the geologist Eduard Suess ) married. A ladies belt from the possession of Therese Koppler von Inngau, b. Wagner, is now in the Wien Museum . The knighthood diploma of Karl Wagner von Inngau, issued in Vienna on August 14, 1879, is kept in the Schärding City Museum.
