Alexander Alexandrowitsch Popow ( Russian Александр Александрович Попов ; born August 31, 1980 in Angarsk , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK CSKA Moscow in the Continental Hockey League since 2016 .

Career

Alexander Popov began his career as a hockey player at HK Awangard Omsk , for which he made his debut in the Russian Super League in the 1998/99 season . With his team, the attacker became Russian champions for the first time in the 2003/04 season . In addition, he was runner-up with Omsk in 2001 and 2006, respectively. At European level, Popow won the IIHF European Champions Cup with Awangard in 2005 . In the final, Kärpät Oulu was beaten out of the Finnish SM-liiga . From the 2008/09 season , the Russian played with Avangard Omsk in the Continental Hockey League founded in 2008 .

After more than 18 years of membership in the club, Popow left HK Awangard in July 2016 and moved within the KHL to HK CSKA Moscow .
