The Ostravar Aréna is a multi-purpose hall in the Zábřeh district of the Czech city of Ostrava . It offers a maximum of 12,500 seats and is mainly used for ice hockey , but also for concerts and shows . The hall, which was inaugurated in 1986, is the home ground of HC Vítkovice Steel . Until 2004 the arena was called Palác kultury a sportu ( German  culture and sports palace ).

history

In 1979 the city of Ostrava decided to build a cultural and sports center. The former culture and sports palace, which has served as a multifunctional arena since its construction in 1986, was created. On the occasion of the men's ice hockey world championship in 2004 , the sports palace was completely renovated for approx. 690 million CZK and renamed ČEZ Aréna, after the Czech energy company ČEZ . The owner is the joint stock company Vítkovice Aréna as , of which the majority shareholder is the city of Ostrava. The complex still includes a hotel , another multifunctional hall and a football stadium .

Between 2004 and 2015, the energy company ČEZ held the naming rights to the hall. It was then renamed Ostrava Aréna in July 2015 , as initially no new namesake had been found. In February 2016, the Ostravar brewery acquired the naming rights to the building, since then it has been called Ostravar Aréna .

Concerts and shows
